The 2008 event will again be at The Hobbit , a
popular pub and live music venue about 1 mile from the centre of
Southampton on Bevois Valley Road.
This year it's not just
you that will make a difference. Since last year's event, the
Hobbit has gone green by installing energy saving light bulbs and
recycling all it's glass bottles. But it's not stopping there.
In an attempt to become Southampton's greenest pub, Environmental
Rock and the University of Southampton are aiding the Hobbit in
carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to see what
further steps can be taken. We hope to publish further
information about this on our website soon.
To join us at The Hobbit, choose your form of transport and
follow the directions below (most environmentally friendly first).
Please note that access to the pub garden is down 2 flights of fairly
steep steps, and so provides limited disabled access - sorry!

Take a leisurely cycle ride around the Common in the morning then
head towards the Cowherds pub just off the Avenue. Cross the pelican
crossing thereabouts, head down Alma Road until the end, turn right
and at the next but one set of traffic lights you'll see The Hobbit
shining in front of you. A little past the pub, down the hill and
on the right there are some cycle stands to lock your bike up to.
If these are full, then you can use the metal fencing/railing on
the side of the pavement.

Bus routes 3, 3a, 6, U1 and U6 all stop within a few minutes walk
of the pub – ask the bus driver to tell you when the bus stops
nearest the junction between Lodge Road and Portswood Road or when
you get to Portswood Junction. For
the latest details on buses, see the
First Group website or the Unilink
website (bus nos. starting with 'U'). From Portswood, stumble down
the hill along Portswood Road towards the city centre
and The Hobbit is just on the junction between Portwood Road, Bevois
Valley Road and the end of Thomas Lewis Way. Or from the city, stroll
up Bevois Valley Road, past the Southerm Motorcycle Centre on your
left and The Hobbit is just up on the right hand side.

The closest station is St Deny's. On arrival, leave the platform
via the footbridge to Osborne Road South (the side with The
Dolphin pub). Turn left, follow onto
Lawn Road, through to the other side to reach Portswood Road. Another
left and The Hobbit is just up ahead. If you want to check
out the latest train timetables, take a look at the
National Rail Enquiries website.

Now you don't want to do that now, do you? Leave your
car at home, save the planet, take public transport, then you can have
a few drinks and relax. This information is mainly for organisations
coming to the event who need to come in their own transport to carry
their materials. The Hobbit is on the A335 (Thomas Lewis Way) at the
point where it turns into Bevois Valley Road. Find a suitable spot on
the side for unloading. There are some car parking spots nearby,
including a small car park on the other side of the road from The
Hobbit (2 hour limit). Alternatively, turn back and head towards
Portswood and try to find a space on a side road then backtrack on foot
5 mins up to The Hobbit.
